How I Stayed in Shape During Quarantine

YouTube is the home of (brb googling) "5+ billion videos!!" That's a lot of videos. At the beginning of the quarantine, I didn't do any exercise, besides lifting food to my mouth. Does that count? I think I was just trying to figure out what was going on in the world. That and to be honest, I often used any excuse not to work out.

However, come May, I found the "Move With Nicole" YouTube Page. She's a "Yoga/Fitness Enthusiast" who posts Pilates and Barre at-home workout videos. I gave them a try and quickly became a fan.

I appreciate Nicole's videos for several reasons.

  • range of intensity
  • not a lot of jumping
  • she's calming, yet motivating
  • often doesn't require equipment
    • Usually just yourself and a yoga mat.
    • One of my favorite workouts does include a chair, but that's easily accessible.
  • works and isolates the target areas
  • There's a nice range of times:
    • For example: 30 min Full Body, 20 min Total Core/Ab, 10 min Pilates HIIT.
    • It makes it easier to commit because even doing a 10-minute video on a busy workday, or lazy day, is better than doing nothing day.

When I started back in May some of the exercises in the videos were difficult to accomplish, but like anything, the more I practiced, the better I became. Resulting in being able to complete moves I thought nearly impossible before.

Also, Nicole is consistently creating new videos. I am a huge fan and I'm grateful that she shares her skills and talent with us. If you're looking for something new, with a range of time and difficulty to help get you in shape, then check out her page:

Extra Notes:

I have been working out on and off since I was 15-years-old. I never knew what my favorite style of workout was until I started Pilates and Barre. I like that they leave me feeling elongated and toned. Lifting weights and using machines make me feel bulky and thick. It might be okay for me to do here and there, but not very often. That's the way my sister likes to workout and that's okay. For a while, I just thought I was lazy because when my sister would ask me to work out, and she asked me a lot, especially at the beginning of quarantine, I would always say no. Then it hit me one day, I just don't like that style of working out. -mind blown- 🤯

I also started running during the quarantine. Well in my mind I am running, but if you see me, I am most definitely jogging. I'll probably save that for another post, but it was a great challenge and something fun that kept me busy in the warm spring and summer quarantine days.
